Getting started with RCUA
1. Fill out the membership form below and click submit. Once your form has been received you will be contacted by a board member, and you will be informed about the first training session in January.
2. Attend the RCUA first training session in January.
-
Clear expectations will be communicated at this meeting. Discussions about what to expect as an umpire, time commitment, and other valuable information will be on the agenda. You will also meet your fellow umpires as well as members of the RCUA board.
3. At the conclusion of the RCUA first training meeting you will have an opportunity to ask questions before the new umpires go into their separate break out session for the last ten minutes of the meeting.
-
If you feel, after this meeting, that you can not fully commit your time and energy to umpiring with RCUA, then your membership form will be put aside and we thank you for attending the first training session of the season.
-
If you feel that you CAN fully commit your time and energy to umpiring with RCUA, WELCOME!
-
The annual dues will be due at the conclusion of the meeting on the second Monday in February. The fee is $90 and it is non-refundable. We accept debit and credit cards, as well as checks (made payable to RCUA).
What happens now you've joined RCUA?
1. Before you can be scheduled to umpire ANY game with RCUA, you must register with the Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association (TSSAA) and Arbiter.
-
Go to the TSSAA page "Get-involved-as-an-official", found here. Note: When you select the sport of baseball you will then choose the official's association you will be affiliated with, and you will choose Chattanooga/RCUA-CUA.
-
Create an Arbiter account by clicking here and follow the instructions. Note: Be sure to add your bank account information! That is how you get paid.
2. Once you have registered for both, our assigner will see that you are in Arbiter and that is where you can find your umpiring schedule. Game assignments are done at various times during the day, so please set your notification for Arbiter on always, this way you will not miss the opportunity to "accept" the game. You must accept games assigned in order for them to appear on your calendar. If you do not accept them within a certain time frame, they will disappear from your profile and these games can not be reassigned to you.
3. Your assignment for each game with be either Plate Umpire or Base Umpire. If you are the PLATE UMPIRE, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to CONFIRM your game with the Head Coach, and if the HC is unavailable, you must contact the School Office, in that order. Confirm each game by noon on gameday. Note: Once you have confirmed the game with the HC or School administrator, notify your partner immediately through text or voicemail. Be sure to identify yourself when texting your partner or leaving a voicemail, as your partner may not have you in his contact list.
Also confirm parking location and the changing area, if provided. Most schools do not have a changing area for the umpires, so you will need to change into your gear upon arrival in a discreet area.
